Each registered domain name has a minimum of two Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain name to the servers of a specific hosting provider. This way, you've got both your website and your emails handled by the same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there are lots of other records, for example A and MX. The first one reveals which server deals with the website for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one reveals which server handles the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, when you enter a domain address in your web browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain uses and from there you will be sent to the servers of a different service provider in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having independent records for the website and the emails suggests that you may have your site and your e-mails with two different companies if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting plan through our company, you will be able to view, create and change any A or MX record for your domain names. Assuming that a particular domain name has our Name Servers, you'll be able to change specific records through our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or e-mails directed to any other company if you want to use only one of our services. Our advanced tool is going to permit you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain in any way. If you choose to use the email services of a different service provider and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do this with only a couple of clicks through the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can also set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, provided with our Linux semi-dedicated plans, will enable you to view the A and MX records for any of the domain addresses or subdomains in your account and if needed, to update any of them or create new ones. Controlling these records is incredibly easy since all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes a few more clicks and in case you experience any problems, you can check out our instructional videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by people with no previous experience, yet advanced enough to offer you full control of all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're moving your emails to a different service provider and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you may choose the priority of each one.
